Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how TaleAtelier collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our service. We are committed to safeguarding your privacy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly: your name and email address when you create an account. We also collect character descriptions, comic content you generate, and usage data such as pages visited and features used. We automatically collect device information, IP address, and browser type for analytics and security purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to: provide and improve the service; generate comic content based on your inputs; process payments and manage your account; send service-related communications; analyze usage patterns to improve user experience; and comply with legal obligations.

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with: payment processors to handle transactions; cloud service providers who host our infrastructure; AI service providers who help generate comic content (prompts and descriptions are processed by our AI partners); and law enforcement when required by law.

5. Content Generation and Moderation

Character descriptions and story prompts are used solely for generating your comic content. All inputs are processed through automated content moderation systems to detect prohibited content (including NSFW material, unauthorized likeness of real people, and copyrighted characters). Your inputs are not used for AI model training. Generated content can be deleted at any time through your account settings.

6. How We Handle Your Photos

Uploading a face photograph is a significant trust act. This section explains — plainly — what happens to that image after you upload it.

Regional processing

Your uploaded photos are stored on infrastructure hosted in the European Union (Paris region, AWS eu-west-3). Character references and generated comic panels derived from your photo are stored in the same region.

What we use your photo for

Your uploaded photo is used only to generate the character reference and comic panels you requested. We do not use your uploaded photos to train AI models. Your photo is not shown to other users, not indexed for search, not sold, and not shared with advertisers.

How long we keep it

The following retention rules apply for the life of your account:

  • Original uploaded photo — retained on our storage while your account is active, deleted immediately when you delete your account
  • Character reference (the stylized version generated from your photo) — retained while your account is active, deleted immediately when you delete your account
  • Generated comic panels containing your character — retained while your account is active, deleted immediately when you delete your account
  • Analytics events and usage logs — retained up to 12 months; contain no image data, only metadata like generation counts and timestamps

We are working on shorter retention defaults for inactive account data. We will update this policy when the change ships.

Third-party providers

To generate the character reference and comic panels, your photo is briefly sent to AI inference providers who run the image-generation and text-processing models. These providers are contractually prohibited from using your image to train their own models. Their retention windows are limited by their own terms of service; typical practice in the industry is short-lived inference-only processing (hours, not permanent storage).

We are formalizing the specific retention commitments of each subprocessor and will publish a subprocessors reference page in a future update.

What deletion removes

When you delete your account (Settings → Delete Account, or by emailing us), the following happens immediately as a synchronous cascade:

  • Your account record (email, name, subscription state) is removed from our database
  • Every uploaded photo is deleted from our storage
  • Every character reference generated from your photos is deleted
  • Every comic you generated is deleted
  • Your identity record is removed from our authentication provider
  • Analytics events tied to your account are wiped asynchronously (typically within minutes)

There is no soft-delete grace period. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. If you want a copy of your comics before deleting, export them from your Library first.

How to request deletion

7. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on secure cloud servers. We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit and at rest. Generated comics are stored securely and can be deleted through your account settings. While we take reasonable precautions, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

8. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Generated comics are stored until you delete them or close your account. Usage logs and analytics data are retained for up to 12 months. You may request deletion of all your data at any time by contacting us or using the account deletion feature in Settings.

9. Cookies and Tracking

We use essential cookies for authentication and user preferences (such as language and theme settings). Usage analytics are first-party: events are sent to our own servers, and we do not embed third-party tracking scripts on our content pages.

The one exception is advertising measurement. If you reach us from a Google ad, a Google Ads tag may load on the sign-up page only to record that the sign-up happened. It does not run on any other page. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland this tag loads only if you choose “Allow” when asked; declining has no effect on your ability to create an account or use the service. You can also control cookies through your browser.

10. Your Rights

You have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate information; delete your account and associated data; export your comic creations; and opt out of non-essential communications. To exercise these rights, visit your Settings page or contact us.

11. GDPR and International Privacy Rights

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or other jurisdictions with data protection laws, you have additional rights including: the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data; the right to restrict or object to processing; the right to data portability; and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We process your data based on your consent (for account creation) and our legitimate interests (for service improvement and security). For California residents (CCPA/CPRA): you have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, the right to delete your data, the right to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights. 12. Children's Privacy

The service is not intended for children under 13 years of age (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on the service or sending you an email. Your continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
